Photography is a continuous learning experience. This is a place I will share some great experiences, new techniques and the fun I have with Photography.

Holiday Family Portraits

I had an opportunity to partner up with a local business and it turned out to be a great time. I met some wonderful hardworking people that work on Farmer Jack's farm located in Southampton, NJ.

For the price of a Christmas tree the farm offered horse carriage rides, fun farm animals and pony rides. I had an opportunity to take family portraits for their customers and took some photos of the farm for fun.  Below are some of the pictures.

Burtin Racing Event

One thing I love about Photography are the great locations and events you find yourself at. I had a great time photographing the Burtin Racing Team at the New Jersey Motorsports complex in Millville, NJ. They were looking for some behind the scenes photos of their team in action over their two day event. They were a great group of hard working people that made my time with them fun and rewarding.

Weather and tracking good light.

Some of the best times to go out and shoot is during stormy weather. When a storm is rolling in or just heading out you can find some of the best light. I tracked a storm that seemed to be fast moving and decided to find a location with some interesting compositions.

Here are a few tips. Use your weather apps to find where storms are predicted and then use the radar to see the direction of the storm. It's always best to know your area well so you have some go to spots for great compositions. You can use a website like www.scoutt.com or 500px and use the map option to search where people took photos from. I use these to find locations I haven't been to but then find different compositions rather than taking the same photo everyone else has taken.

Remember to be safe out there during stormy weather but when done right you will definitely get better images.

Self Portraits

Self portraits can be a really fun and challenging activity for a photographer. If you are the one in your family that takes most of the pictures then you quickly realize you almost never get a picture of yourself. It's the same thing for a photographer who spends most of his time looking through the lens and is rarely ever seen in photographs.

This is why all photographer's should take a little time to do some self portraits. It's also a really great way to learn new lighting techniques because you work at your own pace and you can get really creative.

Here are a few shots from my recent studio shoot starring, me, me, me and me.

Blizzard of 2016

A blizzard decided to drop 1-2 feet of snow in Southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia area. I couldn't help but to take to the trails with my backpack full of camera gear to create a few images.

I went to a local trail which is part of Ceres Park located in Mantua and Pitman, NJ. It's a great place to get away and enjoy a little nature. In addition to the 18 inches of snow there is a flowing stream and lake with miles of trails.  For a photographer, this creates an interesting landscape to take some really great pictures.

Now there is nothing wrong with just taking a picture of the amazing landscape but I figured why not pull out a flash or two and put myself into the image. Luckily I had my trusty tripod, a remote shutter trigger and a few other gadgets to make this work. All in all I had a great time getting some exercise, enjoying nature and of course enjoying photography.
